- 2022-12-16 Friday Night Drawing – slug as character
Yasmeen Abedifard hosted the SAW Friday Night Drawing this week. The task was to pick an emotion, then find something that symbolizes that and make a character out of it. Then make a four panel comic out of it.

4-panel comic. First create an avatar…draw it a couple times to work out the kinks. Suggested to start with the first panel with your avatar saying, “Here I am feeling like ____”.
- Friday Night Drawing
SAW Friday Night Drawing session, hosted by Lawrence Lindell.
The challenge was to draw 8 layouts (just a small sketch of each), choose two, and draw a two-page comic using those layouts. He specifically said these are the only rules!
I arrived late, so I only did one layout. I also combined this with my daily drawing, with the word of the day being safari.
Fun project.
- 2022-10-28 Masks of Fear
SAW Friday Night Drawing session, hosted by Beth Trembly.
The challenge was to draw a four panel comic that dealt with your fear.
- The first panel should be a drawing of something you’ve always been afraid of.
- Next draw you taking on the mask of the thing you fear.
- Then draw yourself using that fear.
- Then so what? What happens as a consequence of being the thing you fear?
I didn’t follow this idea very strictly. This is what I ended up with:
- With police as a metaphor, I drew a fear of cruelty found in an nameless institution.
- Then you put on the mask of cruelty.
- Then causing harm with impunity.
- Then the result of wearing that mask is simple continuation of the fear, but with you as the cause.
It seems to me that taking on a role of fear doesn’t really end in less fear, or the more common wish of a therapeutic and cathartic understanding; but instead leads to unthoughtful propagation.
- Friday Night Drawing intro
These are drawings I do on Friday Night Drawing hosted by SAW, previously hosted by The Believer magazine. I have a bunch that I think are ok, and will be posting them sporadically, plus the new ones I think are ok. Stay tuned!
